Yoga is an ancient Indian form of exercise with an holistic approach, meaning it tackles a person's well being as a whole - mind and body - unlike other forms of exercise.
Yoga's roots can be traced back at least five thousand years and the name means to join, or to unite. It consists of different poses, called asanas, that should be held steady, while controlling the breathing. The breathing techniques, which are central to yoga, are called pranayamas.
Each asana has its own benefits and targets different areas. The philosophy behind yoga is that by daily practice, you will become more centred and relieved from stress and be able to tone the body at the same time.
Yoga and Fertility
The health benefits of yoga for fertility include stress release, increased intimacy, hormonal balance and increased sexual stamina. Yoga for infertility can help couples increase their chances of getting pregnant faster. Yoga stimulated mind and body healing that leads to increase sperm production in men and increase ovulation and hormonal balance in women.
The health benefits of yoga are many, but the greatest benefit of yoga for fertility brings couples is reduced stress which seems to affect infertility more than what people think. Studies report that women who practice yoga are twice as likely to get pregnant because yoga decreases stress, giving people a better way to cope with their situation.
Yoga and Pregnancy
Yoga can help women get through their pregnancy with minimal discomfort. It also helps the birth and post-delivery stages. Postnatal yoga, which can be started about six weeks after the birth, strengthens abdominal muscles and your pelvic floor. It also helps you to get back to your pre-pregnancy shape faster.
Starting Yoga
If you have never tried yoga before, you should start by taking classes to learn the poses under supervision. But if you are already familiar with yoga, there are several books and videos around that contain detailed explanation on how to do the best asanas at home.
Safety guidelines
Starting yoga is no different to starting any other form of exercise - the same advice applies. If you are not used to regular exercise then you should start slowly. If in doubt consult your doctor or midwife.
Mothers-to-be should pay attention not to overstretch the body - the ligaments around the joints become loose and soft during pregnancy. The abdomen should stay relaxed at all times. No kind of pain or nausea should be felt during or after yoga. If this happens, you should stop exercising and contact your GP or midwife.
Fertility Yoga Rhythm
Charli Sales and her team bring to you ‘Fertility Yoga Rhythm’, a fresh new concept of Yoga especially modified to suit our western society and with couples in mind who are wishing to conceive. No matter what your age, size or ability this is for ‘real people with real bodies’.
When you practice ‘Fertility Yoga Rhythm’ you learn Yoga Postures (Asanas) & Breathing Techniques (Pranayama) that nourish your reproductive organs, calm the nervous system, relax the mind, release tension, increase intimacy, bring any hormonal imbalance back into balance and release any energy blockages.
Following your understanding of the postures you will then practice the postures into flowing sequences synchronised with the breath to music, including supported inversions, multiple lower back, inner thigh, hip & pelvic openers. All these postures are all key to increase blood and energy flow directly to the various organs, muscles and pathways that support the reproductive system. We also teach postures that women can use specifically after coitus to increase chances of conception.
At the end you will lie back and enjoy a Guided Meditation with creative Visual Journeys and Positive Affirmations.
Not only will you feel more relaxed, refreshed and energised you will also learn to establish a more loving connection with your body. Learn to respect, love and appreciate your body through mind, body and spirit.
